Freezing the Wave
What is Freezing?Freezing means keeping the enemy minion wave in a favorable position (closer to your turret) without pushing. This forces your opponent to overextend, making them vulnerable to ganks, while ensuring you can farm safely.
How to Freeze a Wave:
- Last-hit only: Don’t use abilities on the wave, and only auto-attack to finish minions with 1 HP.
- Leave 3-4 enemy caster minions alive to keep the wave in your favor. These extra minions slow the wave from resetting.
- If the enemy tries to push the wave to break the freeze, use Warwick’s sustain to trade and zone them away.
- When you are ahead in lane and want to deny farm and XP to the enemy.
- If you're weak in the matchup and want to farm safely near your tower.
- To set up a gank, forcing the enemy to come closer to your side of the lane.
- Use abilities to hard-push the wave into the enemy’s turret to make it reset.
- Call for your jungler to help break the freeze if you’re being denied.
Pushing vs. Slow Pushing
- Fast Push: Kill all enemy minions as quickly as possible to crash the wave under the enemy tower. Use this when:
- You want to recall and reset your items.
- You want to roam or contest an objective like Rift Herald.
- The enemy laner is dead, and you want to deny them farm.
- Slow Push: Kill only the melee minions, leaving the caster minions alive. This builds a large wave that moves slowly to the enemy tower. Use slow pushes when:
- You want to create pressure in the lane while moving to help your team elsewhere.
- You want to build a big wave to dive the enemy turret with your jungler.
Wave Resetting
- A wave resets when it meets at the center of the lane after both sides kill all minions equally.
- Reset the wave if you want to go back to base without losing farm or pressure.
How Warwick Uses Wave Control to His Advantage ( Biased as its my Main)
- Freeze near your turret to draw in the enemy laner for an all-in with your ultimate.
- Push when you want to roam and use your passive movement speed to hunt low-health enemies.
- Slow push if you plan to dive the enemy or need to pressure an objective after building a large wave.
